Fall

Loving this fall weather driving around the Pacific Northwest. Time to get in a couple extra hikes while the weather is still somewhat cooperating.

Mount Si- North Bend, WA

Been trying to venture away from my usual hiking spots along hwy2 and mountain loop hwy, some work friends suggested I try Mount Si. I couldn't have picked a worse day to go! I hit the trail at 7:30am with a slight drizzle and a grey sky. 2hours, 4miles of switchbacks, and 3150ft elevation gain later I reached the top, only to stay long enough to snap a quick picture and down some water. The slight drizzle had turned into an outright downpour with gusty winds and the trail into a small stream. Despite the weather I still had a great time and enjoyed the challenge. Can't wait for summer to try this again!!

Lake Serene Index,Wa 7/20/2013

Saturday, no work, and a beautiful summer day....what to do?! Day hike to Lake Serene! Located off of Hwy 2 just before the town of Index is the trailhead to Lake Serene/Bridal Veil Falls. It's a 7.2 mile out and back trail rated "difficult" but we seemed to cruise just fine. Once past the fork to go to the falls the switchbacks start....which to be honest is pretty much how the rest of the hike goes until you get to the lake. The lake is absolutely breathtaking and looks quite inviting to the exhausted, sweaty, and overheated hiker, but be warned it is very cold! Enjoy a quick dip and a picnic on the big rock overlooking the lake before heading back :-)

Iron Goat trail/Old Cascade Tunnel

Iron Goat Trail- June 30th, 2013

Located off of Hwy2 (Steven's Pass) is the Iron Goat trail. Home to the Old Cascade Tunnel, townsite of Wellington/Tye and the tragic train wreck from the 1910 avalanche (The Wellington avalanche was the worst avalanche, measured in terms of lives lost, in the history of the United States.) The trail was beautiful and diverse, from switchbacks, to woods, waterfalls and plenty of historic sites to explore. Here are a few pics.

6/6/2013 Old Robe Canyon Granite Falls,WA

Old Robe Canyon is a beautiful hike just outside the town of Granite Falls. While on most hiking sites it states the trail is closed at 1.2miles you can really push on much further. After the trail closed sign the train tracks along the river start to reveal themselves. Follow them along the river and scramble over a few rockslides and you will come to a series of old train tunnels blasted through the rock. The first two tunnels are passable to walk through, however, the 3rd and 4th tunnel you will have to climb over. The 3rd tunnel has a nice path to guide you over, the 4th does not. There is a lot of climbing involved to reach the other side. That was out turn around point. Overall was an amazing hike. Enjoy the pictures.
